The Limido from Arluno

Limido Gianclaudio, born in Cannobio (VB) in 1931, raised in Milan, arrived in Arluno in 1955, where, without many means, but facing serious debts, at the age of 25 courageously opens a small Foto-Cine-Ottica shop (when optics was still in its infancy. He later became an Optometrist, attending evening courses at an American SOE school at the age of around 50).

Clearly he had to feed himself and, in doing so, he met and courted Vittoria during lunch breaks at Pietro Vignati’s Drogheria Caffè, with whom he started a new family, in 1960, and four children: Domenico , Marco and Franco, who still carry on the “Ottica Limido” business today, and Eva (whom he affectionately called “his pearl”). In this story of dedication and passion with deep roots, everything holds together: “Ottica Limido” has been based, since 2003, right where the grocery store where Gianclaudio and Vittoria met once stood.

In Arluno and the surrounding area, many keep their wedding, baptism, communion, confirmation album, or simply passport photos and portraits taken by “Limido”, the photographer who also immortalized many important moments in history of the country since 1955, and which has brightened the eyesight of most.

He passed away on October 26, 2015, at the age of 84, after a long life dedicated to his passion for work and love for his family, following cardiovascular complications, but with a heart and a mind still able to tell us a lot.
